Project Overview

Baigents played a lead role in managing and evaluating floor vibrations in a double-story office complex in Port Melbourne. Our team conducted site measurements and utilized finite element analysis (FEA) software to identify areas of structural resonance, allowing us to provide recommendations to upgrade the structure.

Baigents also conducted a thorough review of the existing mezzanine structure, which involved the design and detailing of structural rectification works for connections, bracing and footings that were specifically tailored to the site’s unique conditions.  Baigents designed temporary support structures in collaboration with the builder, to facilitate the rectification works.

Additionally, Baigents provided structural engineering analysis and design services for modification of the building structure, to esnure compliance with the clients requirements.

Throughout the project, Baigents worked closely with our client and other professionals to deliver a comprehensive engineering service.

Key technical challenges

  • Advanced FEA modelling to identify the structure’s natural frequency and detect any evidence of resonance
  • Structural rectification works to reduce vibrational resonance
  • Comprehensive project management for inspection and testing services
